MSV International Inc. is engaged as the Authority’s Engineer for the Tumkur–Davangere New Broad Gauge (BG) Line project under the Tumkur–Chitradurga–Davangere New Line initiative of South Western Railway. The project covers a 41.00 km railway section between Chainage 25.400 and 66.400, extending from Thimmarajanahalli (excluding) to Tavarekere (including) stations.
The scope includes comprehensive civil, electrical, signalling and telecommunication works. Key infrastructure features comprise four crossing stations (Jogihalli, Chikkanahalli, Sira and Tavarekere), 11 major bridges, 55 minor bridges, 8 road overbridges (ROBs), 35 road underbridges (RUBs), one foot overbridge at Jogihalli, and three subways at Chikkanahalli, Sira and Tavarekere stations. The new line is designed for a maximum speed of 110 km/h, an axle load of 25 tonnes, and operates under the Absolute Block System.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Authority’s Engineer, MSV is responsible for end-to-end technical and contractual oversight, including project planning, survey and alignment review, proof checking of designs, and day-to-day supervision of construction activities. MSV ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, facilitates coordination among key stakeholders, certifies measurements and bills, evaluates variation proposals and time extension claims, oversees utility shifting, and reviews Quality Assurance Plans (QAP).
Project Aim and Impact
The Tumkur–Davangere New BG Line establishes a direct rail corridor between the two cities, reducing the rail distance by 52.94 km and enabling faster, more efficient movement of passengers and freight across Central Karnataka. Tumkur, an emerging industrial hub with SEZs, food parks and MSMEs, and Davangere, a major agro-industrial centre, benefit from strengthened industry-to-market connectivity.
The project also helps decongest saturated routes such as the Bengaluru–Hubballi and Arsikere–Davangere corridors, enhancing network capacity, operational flexibility and logistics efficiency for South Western Railway. Aligned with the National Logistics Policy (NLP), the new line supports regional economic growth, investment promotion and balanced development.
Existing Route (via Tumkur–Arsikere–Birur–Chikjajur–Davangere): 255.59 km
New Direct Route (via Tumkur–Chitradurga–Davangere): 202.65 km
