Kavach Scheme – Upgradation of Electric Traction System from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV on Jolarpettai (JTJ) – Salem Junction, Karnataka, India
MSV has commenced Project Supervision Services ( PSS ) under the Kavach Scheme for the upgradation of the electric traction system on the JTJ–SA section of the Salem Division of Southern Railway. MSV’s role includes safety supervision, compliance monitoring, and coordination to ensure that all works are executed in accordance with Indian Railways’ safety standards and Kavach implementation guidelines.
Project Impact
The project significantly enhances the operational capability of one of Southern Railway’s important freight and passenger corridors. The upgradation enables handling of freight trains up to 3000 MT, improves energy efficiency and system reliability, and supports speed enhancement up to 130 km/h. Integration with Kavach, Indian Railways’ indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) / Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), strengthens operational safety and reduces the risk of train collisions, thereby improving overall corridor performance.
Location: Jolarpettai (JTJ) – Salem Junction (SA) section, Salem Division; part of the Jolarpettai–Salem–Coimbatore corridor
Safety System: Implementation under the Kavach (ATP/TCAS) Scheme
This project contributes to capacity augmentation, higher speeds, and enhanced safety on a critical rail corridor of Southern Railway.
